Manila, Philippines, June 21 2011 – Emerson Network Power has appointed Anand Sanghi as president of its Asia market operations. The Asia Pacific business is comprised of three strong teams in China, India and Asia, where Sanghi will report directly to Stephen Liang, Emerson Network Power Asia Pacific president.
In his new role, Sanghi will assume full leadership and general management responsibility for Emerson Network Power’s Asia organization covering Australia and New Zealand, South East Asia, Japan, South Korea, and Pakistan.
The appointment is indicative of Emerson Network Power’s business in the region which has seen steady growth through the years despite fluctuations in the economy and the company’s core IT&C markets. It also reflects the company’s confidence in its strategy in the region, as it continues to expand with new customers, partners, and geographies.
“Asia is an exciting market with sophisticated and demanding customers, we have a terrific team and I am proud to be part of it,” commented Sanghi. “With the recent global acquisitions of Avocent and Chloride, we are best positioned to support communications and computing infrastructure needs with the most innovative and efficient products, solutions, services and true Data Center Infrastructure Management. This provides a solid foundation for Emerson’s industry leadership and continued growth in Asia.”

Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson, boosts its data centre efficiency services in Asia Pacific with a data center audit program.
The program is a half-day audit where Emerson Network Power’ data center experts provide a detailed analysis of the current data center infrastructure and offer a comparison with industry best practices.
“Data center managers face an uphill struggle in maintaining and monitoring their data centers. Effective cooling, power management and space are requirements for a healthy data center and as it grows to accommodate operational requirements, the optimal efficiency of data centers becomes more difficult to achieve,” says Nilzon Villanueva, channel product services manager for Emerson Network Power in Asia.
As the data center is expanded, improper planning can lead to critical pitfalls such as hot spots, excessive energy costs, power management issues or power outages.
“The data center audit offers an objective insight into the status and health of data center infrastructure. We aim to highlight opportunities to improve availability and efficiency and impart best practices in the design, management and operation of data center infrastructure,” adds Villanueva.
As a part of the program, Emerson Network Power data center experts will assess data center performance in five categories: cooling, power, service, racks and security. The output would be a report of findings and recommendations that will help customers and partners better understand their current data center infrastructure and plan for future changes to manage IT demand growth. This detailed report also includes an easy-to-read ‘green-amber-red’ stoplight system, which compares different elements of the computer room against 50 industry-standard best practices.

While metrics such as power usage effectiveness (PUE) measure the energy inputs and outputs of data centers, the new position paper outlines formulas for measuring the material inputs and outputs, including everything required to run a data center, from paper and toner cartridges to IT hardware and supporting equipment. Recycling Ratios provides a method for measuring efficiency over time as a data center evolves from startup, to an initial equipment refresh around year seven, through eventual relocation.
“With organizations such as the Sierra Club promoting zero-waste policies, companies need an easily understood metric for assessing whether materials are handled in an environmentally responsible manner – and a tool for measuring progress,” said Jack Pouchet, director of energy initiatives for Emerson Network Power. “Just as our Energy Logic approach helped companies focus on reducing energy consumption, Recycling Ratios provides data center managers with ideas on taking sustainability to a new level.”
The position paper is available as a free download on Emerson Network Power’s Efficient Data Centers website along with the calculator.

Aimed at identifying best practices, addressing challenges on energy efficiency, availability and flexibility as well as optimizing IT infrastructure solutions, the interactive event has attracted over a hundred participants including CIOs, CFOs and data center consultants coming from the country’s leading IT organizations. All throughout the event, subject matter experts, representatives and other key stakeholders of Emerson Network Power were present.
The event started with the morning portion which featured four 30-minute breakout sessions that focus on cutting-edge topics such as technology breakthroughs in precision cooling, power quality, racks and enclosures as well as service and monitoring.
After the breakout sessions, participants signed up for the consultation session. This arrangement enabled the attendees to ask experts on specific questions regarding their current facility requirements. Most of the requirements or concerns discussed during the consultation session had to do with cost-effective and scalable power, temperature and humidity control as well as monitoring.
“We received tremendous feedback from attendees about how Emerson can help strengthen their growing networks,” said Russell Perry, marketing and customer insights director, Asia Pacific. “These forums provided an opportunity for all involved, from industry professionals, consultants to subject matter experts, to network and discuss how together we can identify the right solutions and build tomorrow’s high performance networks.”
To give attendees a clearer understanding of Emerson Network Power’s solutions, the afternoon session provided an extensive presentation and discussion on specific subject matters on power and cooling. Two 3-hour simultaneous sessions occurred – the first thread focused on precision cooling, specifically on room, row and rack cooling whereas the second thread delved on AC power, specifically on modular UPS, power management and the latest power solutions.
“Emerson Network Power would like to thank all who attended and whose ideas, experience, and input made these forums a success,” said Katrina Tirante, marketing manager, Southeast Asia .
